There is sufficient capacity within the city's diverse labour market to facilitate the occupation of jobs through a range of relocations into the city.
Key figures from Coventry City Council's Research and Strategy department (June 2004) have identified a range of employment and recruitment trends within Coventry.
- 48,000 people commute from Warwickshire and the surrounding area to work in Coventry.
- Each year there are 4000+ school leavers moving into work, further training or A-levels that contribute to the available workforce.
- Currently there are 38,000 people classed as 'economically inactive' (carers, those claiming benefits - not Job Seekers Allowance etc), which has reduced by 10,000 in the last year.
- There are also 9,000 refugees with a range of qualifications within the city.
Recruitment Support and local initiatives
Coventry City Council works in conjunction with a range of agencies, such as Job Centre Plus, recruitment specialists and the universities to support new investment into the city. When looking to recruit staff to fill vacancies, there are two key organisations that are able to help find the right people for the job.
The Recruitment Network
The recruitment network is an alliance of different local recruitment organisations that help jobseekers and employers throughout Coventry & Warwickshire. It is co-ordinated by Warwickshire County Council and Coventry City Council, but each member organisation has its own unique service. All member services are totally FREE and member organisations are not agencies. They do however have a large numbers of customers who have chosen to register for information, advice or to use their facilities - to help secure that all important new job.
is the Recruitment Networks innovative website. Organisations can use it to promote any of their job vacancies totally free of charge.
The website reaches a large number of local jobseekers, is used daily by member organisations to find vacancies for their customers, an initial suitability check is carried out before anyone is put forward to your preferred recruitment process, It is free to use and search profiles are available of registered jobseekers very easily.
Jobcentre Plus
