The Community Employment and Skills TeamThe Community Employment and Skills Team aims to enhance the skills of local people, secure local jobs for local people, support businesses with workforce development and improve the local economy to benefit everyone in Coventry.The Employment and Skills offerThe Employment and Skills offer includes a range of services to people looking for a job. Local jobs brokers work with individuals to identify what personal support and training they require. This could include practical assistance with tools or clothing required for a particular job, work preparation and bespoke training. The Local Jobs GroupThe Local Jobs Groups a partnership of key agencies in the city which aims to maximise the opportunities created by major new developments for local people. It works closely with employers to support their recruitment process and the Local Jobs Bus travels out into the community advertising job vacancies. The Employment Support ServiceThe Employment Support Service or TESS for short is a specialist recruitment service for disabled people. It offers advice, support and practical assistance to help people find, and keep, paid work, as well as providing support to local employers, who recognise the benefits of a diverse workforce and who are willing to provide disabled people with an opportunity to show what they can do.TESS also supports disabled people through the WORKSTEP programme, a national scheme funded by Jobcentre Plus, which provides a wide range of support, tailored to meet the needs of disabled people and employers. Work Smart South WestWork Smart South West is an employability project which offers support to people living in the south west area of Coventry to access jobs and training opportunities. It offers one to one support and assistance with CV writing, job applications and interview techniques. Work Life BalanceWork Life Balancethe introduction of the Work and Families Act reflects the reality of a changing workforce and the need for organisations to adapt if they are to motivate, recruit and retain skilled employees.Support is on offer to help local companies to implement flexible working practices and policies. This includes advice and information about the wide range of work life balance options available, one to one support, seminars and workshops designed to help businesses keep up-to-date with employment legislation. We co-organise the Coventry & Warwickshire employer of choice awards to publicly recognise organistions that are developing good employment practices with regard to work life balance and health and wellbeing. STEPS (Steps to Excellence for Personal Success)STEPS (Steps to Excellence for Personal Success) a relaxed and fun learning experience that can help people improve confidence, think positively and take control of their lives. STEPS is a free course delivered in a very supportive, flexible and interactive way at locations across the city. The Construction Employment UnitThe Construction Employment Unit a team of ten partners, it provides an unparalleled construction sector service for employers, and for job seekers in the Coventry and Warwickshire area. For employers services include a bespoke recruitment service, tailored to meet individual employers needs and a computerised matching service. For job seekers services include help to identify training needs, information on a range of construction careers, help to identify job opportunities and even support once a client has found a job.The team manages a number of construction training projects which aim to provide a route to employment in the construction industry by funding training to gain the skills and qualifications needed to work in the sector. Non-biased support is available to help companies to identify training needs and to help them meet their business needs. Thanks to links with a consortium of learning providers, a number of flexible learning methods is available.
