Latest figures show students have achieved Coventry's best ever results for A Levels in 2009.
- The proportion of young people in Coventry schools succeeding at A level has continued to grow and is in line with the national results.
- Just as importantly, the percentage achieving the highest grades (A and B) has continued to improve.
- For the fourth year running, the overall A Level pass rate (% A to E) has improved (from 95.2% in 2003 and 2004 to an impressive 97.3% points in 2009).
- As the post 16 curriculum broadens a growing number of young people in Coventry now follow vocational courses that are equivalent to A levels in sixth forms. This year over 100 young people achieved passes in these qualifications, a very significant increase from just 38 in 2008, an 150% increase, with a 98% pass rate!
- In addition 14 students were successful in achieving the International Baccalaureate.
- These early statistics would seem to indicate that greater access to vocational courses has seen a rise in the numbers of students staying on for two years of advanced level study. In 2009 100 more students stayed on after leaving their respective Year 11 group two years previously, increasing by 2.1% points from 32.6% in 2008 to 34.7% this year.
*The results are provisional at the time of going to press and are subject to confirmation in the autumn.
