Coventry is an ancient city with a proud history and three cathedrals - something not many places can claim.
The city's first cathedral, founded by Leofric and Godiva in the 11th century, was destroyed by Henry VIII. Its remains now stand in the elegant Priory Gardens, created as part of Coventry's Millennium project.
Its second cathedral, once the biggest parish church in England, was destroyed by the Luftwaffe on the night of November 14, 1940 and has become a global icon of peace and reconciliation. Its third, consecrated in 1962, was recently voted the nation's favourite 20th century building.
Coventry's 20th century industrial story is told in the Coventry Transport Museum, which houses the largest collection of British transport in the world, and in the newly extended Herbert Art Gallery & Museum.
The city plays host to a string of annual events, led by the summer Godiva Festival, now the biggest free festival in England, and has a rich cultural life, fed by the many communities who have settled here from around the world.
