Herbert Art Gallery
The Herbert is undergoing a phased redevelopment, the first part of which will be completed by mid 2004. This will result in a smart new entrance on Bayley Lane, a new cafe area, an education space for schools, two training and meeting rooms, a new gallery space, creative media production facilities and an arts information centre. The total cost of this first phase is £2 million. Further phases of redevelopment are being planned at a cost of around £14 million. These will result in a new wing to the building facing the Cathedral and University which will provide new gallery spaces for high quality touring exhibitions, a centre for the study of the city's history, new art and history exhibitions and a discovery gallery aimed specifically at children.
