There are a further series of projects to which the city council has given a firm commitment, some of which are partnerships with the private sector. Although these are still at the development stage, they have the council's backing to be taken through to completion. These proposals build on what has already been achieved and represent the ongoing regeneration of the city.

Belgrade Plaza
The council has recently appointed Oakmoor Estates and Deeley Properties as its preferred development partner to complete a £100m major regeneration of the Bond Street car park area to be known as Belgrade Plaza. Proposals include two large hotels, a casino, a major mixed residential scheme (c.300 units), car parking, a major retail store and a variety of bars and restaurants. These will combine to create a new focal point around the Belgrade Theatre and the pedestrian link to the Leigh Mills car park.

Belgrade Theatre
The £9 million Belgrade Theatre redevelopment will extend and refurbish this post war Grade II listed building. It will create a new 300 seat second auditorium and improve the existing 850 seat auditorium and foyers. As well as enhancing the existing façade onto Belgrade Square, a new façade will be created facing onto Bond Street to link with the developments planned for that area. The project will help create a focal point for the regeneration in the Bond Street area, increasing the attractiveness of Coventry as a visitor destination. Work is due to start in Summer 2004.

Bus Hubs
To tie in with the pedestrianisation of High Street four new Bus Hubs are being developed along the inner ring road. They will comprise groups of high quality bus shelters and supporting facilities of the same innovative design as those recently completed in Trinity Street. The locations will be:
Ironmonger Row (including the top to bottom renewal of Burges)
New Union Street/Bull Yard
Lidice Place/Corporation Street
Little Park Street
They will be developed over the next year and will be substantially completed prior to the closure of High Street. The High Street/ Bus Hubs project is still subject to Council and successful Highway Regulation approvals.

Pedestrianisation of High Street
The council intends to pedestrianise and fully resurface High Street using high quality materials, to create a safe and pleasant environment. Next door Broadgate is to be closed to all but buses. Taxis will be substantially relocated nearby and access to businesses will be restricted to outside business hours. The area will be controlled by a rising bollard system.

Millennium View
The council has appointed CDP as its preferred development partner for the final commercial phase of the Phoenix Initiative regeneration project. CDP’s mixed-use leisure and residential scheme will create two highly distinctive buildings, providing three bars/restaurants on the ground and first floors and with 56 apartments above. This development will act as a catalyst, opening up and stimulating the possible revitalisation of the historic Palmer Lane and River Sherbourne area to the rear.

Coventry Sport and Leisure Centre
The swimming baths, built in 1966, is now one of Coventry’s Grade II post-war listed buildings. But, options are now being explored for how the building can be improved and facilities developed to meet the needs of the city and the region in the twentyfirst century. The aim will be to provide facilities which encourage local people to get involved in sport and healthy exercise, state-of-the-arts leisure facilities to attract more tourists into the city, as well as a high quality swimming pool for more serious training and competition. Plans for wider discussion will be availble in winter 2004.
